~My first assignment...~
Went for the teacher's briefing today... and found out that we are subjected to "contents upgrading", meaning that the modules we have taken in our tertiary days may not be relevant to what we are going to teach in sec sch level, hence the taking of extra specific modules to "top up" our teaching subject, so as to equip us with the Full Package of relevancy to the level we are going to teach. This scheme was implemented only recently, like one or two years ago...
My first teaching subject is Chemistry, and the second is Mathematics. Based on the modules taken in my Uni days, I am most likely to be exempted from the "Contents upgrading" extra modules... (Hope so... if not got extra workload... =/) which some may find that exemption from this may not be a good thing cos it actually helps the trainee teachers to revise the sec sch syllabus... Oh well... I shall wait and see to know if I am exempted from this.
Hmm... for mathematics, I have to sit for O-level Mathematics exam papers, and the passing mark is 75%. Upon failing, the trainee teacher is subjected to "contents upgrading" modules. Hope I pass... Pray hard...Haven't been touching maths for a long long time... So these couple of weeks I will be mugging for it. Basically starting with revision and then subsequently doing past year O-level Maths papers.... =/ Both E-maths and A-Maths!!! Two papers!!! My first assignment...
I am not so much worried for practicum (aka attachment to schools), but rather the O-level Mathematics exam paper. My frens had totally opposite sentiments from me. All of them. They worry about the practicum more than the Maths exam paper. I had totally different reactions from them. Lol...
Their view points: Practicum is totally unpredictable. Very subjective. Beyond our control. It is about handling a class of 30+ students, accounting to your mentor, the principal, how are you going to teach so that they understand, do you have enough content to teach, and the list goes on.... Hence they find this more scary than Maths exam-paper.
My view point: Yes, practicum is unpredictable. Very subjective. Beyond our control. So why worry about something that you cannot control, something you cannot predict. I know God is in control. Instead, I am more freaked out by the Maths exam. It's sth you know you will do well if you study and put in effort. So the concern comes from doing this well, cos you know you did it before and scored well before, so this creates a certain expectation and you will want to pass it. I should say such worry comes more from concern and pressure to do well.
Either one, excessive worrying is no good.
